A New Energy Vehicle (NEV) is a vehicle that uses electric power, in whole or in part, instead of relying only on a petrol or diesel engine. The term covers Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs) and Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEVs).

Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV)

Runs purely on electricity stored in its battery, with an electric motor instead of a combustion engine, and produces zero tailpipe emissions.

Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV)

Combines an electric motor and battery that can be charged from the grid with a combustion engine, so it can drive on electricity alone or use both power sources together.

In Pakistan: SHARK 6

According to BYD, running an NEV can cost around one third of the running cost of a comparable internal combustion vehicle. Actual savings depend on electricity and fuel prices, driving behaviour and conditions.
